30 Day Fast!
I take a crap ton of medication. However the Vitamins and supplements I use are these....
- Standard Multi (because you won't be getting any from food)
- Emergen-C (Helps support not eating)
- Vitamin D gel tabs (all around happy pill)
- Dessicated Liver tabs (iron, more b vitamins and other nutrients. Also helps increases the oxygen throughout the body you lose when you stop eating.)
- Green Tea Fat Burner from applied nutrition (Burns extra fat and increases energy)
Its my cocktail mixture and it will work
My research shows
Days 1-3 of a fast are the hardest, but the pain will be caused more by gastric irritation than true hunger. After day 3 of fasting, hunger is reduced or disappears all together. The earliest benefit of a fast occurs on days 3-5. Days 7-14 will be healing, days 14-21 will be like a euphoric dream and days 21-28 will be nothing short of a complete regeneration of the body. Without food, the body will use an alternative energy source such as glycogen or stored fat. Once the glucose is reduced in the body, the bodies metabolism changes and starts producing ketone bodies. Once a person eats a single crumb, the bodies metabolism immediately converts back to how it was before and the hunger levels will rise. After the glucose and stored fat is used up, usually occurring after 28 days, the body will start burning vital tissue or starving. Note that once starvation begins the fast must end.
Fasting mainly benefits people with a slow metabolism. It also great for people who hate or can't exercise. In fact, one can think of fasting as being like exercise because like exercise, it will take a degree of self-sacrifice. If a fast is performed 1-3x annually for 14-28 days, the body will reach a state of health no amount of exercise could ever accomplish. A fast will be a long detoxification that demands mental preparation to carryout. The benefits of a fast are well worth the pain.
Fasting notes:
- After day 5 the desire for food will dramatically drop
- After day 10 hunger levels for the most part will be non-existing and energy levels will rise.
- Expect to lose at least 1 pound a day
- Stay clear of exercise
- Git rid of headaches by drinking peppermint tea, powerade/gatorade, and taking your vitamins and supplements regularly
Weakness
While weak moments occur mostly in the first coupe of days, you may find yourself having periods of temptation to quit, times you fall into self-doubt. "Why am I doing this anyway?""What's the point?""This is too hard." Don't beat yourself up over these thoughts. They're just a natural outcome of changing your usual patterns. It can be a lot like grief; you are grieving the loss of something the provided you comfort and was so much a part of your life--food. Quitting any addiction feels like this. You can get through these moments by distracting yourself with other activities, like taking nap (which I do best) or picking up that neglected hobby or passion - drawing, painting, writing... Or you can face them head-on by reminding yourself this was a decision you made clearly and intelligently, with all of the facts and information before you. Get back in touch with the energy and mental set-up of the person you were when you made that decision. Reread those facts and pieces of information, read over the benefits on this page, or great fast quotes. Is it still a valid decision?
Dizziness
If you should feel dizzy, immediately sit down; if there's no chair available, simply lie down on the floor. Fainting can happen and can, of course, cause injury. Dizziness is usually caused by lower blood pressure fasting can bring about. Keep this in mind and don't stand up or get out of bed quickly while fasting. I can not stress enough, how important it is to take the appropriate supplements during a fast. This is why I always have some emergen-c each day.
Rest
I highly recommend that you not work during a fast, and most importantly that you not work during those first few critical days. If you work in a totally loving and supportive environment, it might be okay to work during the latter part of the fast. If you work in a non-supportive environment, particularly one that is highly charged with strict deadlines or difficult co-workers, just don't even go there. You will probably feel more emotional than usual during a fast (super bitch), because your emotional and mental patterns will be undergoing a sort of cleanse of their own. If you really must work during part of your fast, and this might depend on how long you're fasting, at least reserve the first 3-5 days to be away from pressures and the pressures of being around the ''eating public''. I think this time is best spent in partial seclusion, or full seclusion, depending on your personality.
What to do with your time
Take time for long meditation and/or prayer. Pick up that neglected hobby or passion - drawing, painting, writing... Keep a fasting journal, recording your feelings, impressions and insights. From this journal, you will discover your own unique set of fasting tips to use your next fast. Maybe treat yourself with self-spa-- take long baths, moisturize your skin with natural, chemical-free moisturizers, give yourself a mani or pedi, do a facial. Begin the practice of dry skin brushing to help eliminate toxins and stimulate the lymphatic system. Be careful in the sunlight or saunas as they can be very dehydrating. Catch up on reading (preferably uplifting). Walk or do light yoga and stretches. Spend more time than you usually do with your pet.
Expert Insight
- Health experts say that most healthy individuals have enough fat stored in the body to live without food for several weeks, as long as they keep themselves well hydrated. Starvation only occurs when the body has exhausted its fat reserves and must use tissue from vital organs as a source of energy to survive.Fasting will:
- rest the digestive system
- allow for cleansing and detoxification of the body
- create a break in eating patterns, while shining a spotlight on them
- promote greater mental clarity
- cleanse and heal "stuck" emotional patterns
- lead to a feeling of physical lightness, increasing energy level
- promote an inner stillness, enhancing spiritual connectio
